I am Sajith Prabhan, a video editor and graphic designer. I began my journey in 1990, during the era of MS Dos, delving into creative endeavors with Animator Pro. Working with VHS cassettes, I crafted advertisement animations and edited wedding videos using Panasonic camcorders, video mixers, and National video recorders. With the advent of Microsoft Windows, I transitioned to desktop publishing and design using Corel Draw and Pagemaker. As Adobe Photoshop emerged in the mid-’90s, my focus shifted to design work.
In ’97, I employed Pinnacle video cards and Ginie Plus software for editing on VHS and beta tapes. The introduction of landline services by BSNL in the early ’90s expanded my opportunities for learning, despite sluggish internet speeds—taking a day for just one megabyte. By 2000, I moved away from linear editing, embracing NLE systems as VHS gave way to Mini DV, utilizing Pinnacle, Canopus, and Matrox for professional real-time editing and effects.
For seven years into the 2000s, I immersed myself in Avid Liquid for nonlinear editing, enhancing wedding videos with 5.1 audio. Broadband internet opened doors to a wealth of digital assets. Transitioning to Adobe Premiere in the latter part of the 2000s, I used Adobe Audition for audio design, After Effects for graphics, and the Adobe Creative Suite to distinguish my work.
As smartphones entered the scene, I optimized videos for mobile viewing. Two decades of expertise in Windows honed my skills in software and hardware installation. In 2010, I embraced a shift from Android to iOS and Windows to MAC, adding color to my life with new operating systems and software. Adopting Final Cut simplified my workload, and by 2020, I predominantly utilized Adobe Creative Cloud apps, operating in this era of global connectivity. From humble megabyte floppy disks to terabyte-sized SSDs, from days to access one megabyte to swift gigabit speeds, life continues to evolve and progress.
